Fly Tying Classes & Special Instruction 

Future Classes

For further information contact me at the below phone number or via email at DaveTyer@comcast.net.  These classes classes will take place in Dave’s "Tying Den," specially built for teaching up to seven students.  Please contact me (information below) for more information.

Beginning Fly Tying – Mondays starting January 18, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., for eight weeks. Please contact either Dave per below information and through the classes registration page. This class is intended for those that want a weekly class at night that gives them time to practice between sessions of course materials. Cost: $180.00 per student.

Intermediate Fly Tying – Wednesdays  starting January 20, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., for six weeks. Please contact either Dave per below information and through the classes registration page. We tie complete flies in this class and students should have basic skills from some beginning classes. Cost: $180.00 per student.

Specialty Classes

All specialty classes will be held in Pleasant Hill, Calif., at my home (in the tying den of course). Room has been set up to teach, with oval eight foot table, track lighting and special plug ins for your vice lights. For these all-day classes (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. please bring a lunch and anything special you would like to drink; coffee and filtered water will also be provided). Cost: $90.00 per class, per student, with a 50% deposit to hold space in a class for each student.

Parachute Flies – Sat. Jan 23, 2010 (March Brown/Pale Morning Dun/Blue Winged Olive/Trico).

Classic Steelhead Flies for the West Coast -Sat. Feb 6, 2010 (Ed Haas, egg, spey style patterns).

Midges & Tying Tiny - Nymphs - Sat. Feb 20 2010 (midges that work!).

Traditional Catskill Dry Flies – Sat. Mar 6, 2010  (Quill Gordon/Red Quill/Light Cahill/Bivisible).

Striped Bass & Bass Flies - Sat. Mar 20, 2010 (Clouser/Whistler/Half&Half/Bass Hair)

Damsels, Dragons, Snails & Scuds – Sat. April 3, 2010 (patterns that will work April through June!).

Classic Married Wing Salmon Flies – Sat. April 17, 2010 (focus on marrying feather wings and techniques).

Hooks and materials for classes provided by the instructor, students to provide own tools (vice, scissors, bobbin, bodkin, hackle pliers, hair stacker/packer/comb – recommended tools list can be provided to all students). For Saturday classes, students should bring a sack lunch and drinks for the day (filtered water and coffee will be provided). 

 

Local & On-Site Fly Tying Classes

Flytying demonstrations for your local events and onsite classes for up to 8 persons per class can be arranged both for on-site locations (in the San Francisco Bay Area) and in Pleasant Hill.  Personal one on one instruction is also available.
